BARDIA - J.Brills famous Fresco

Beitragvon Kuno » 3/11/2007, 13:21

Many people know the famous fresco, J.Brill, RASC, has painted onto the walls of the room where he was kept prisoner by the Germans in April 1942.

When I visited the place again this October I recognized a positive sign: The buildng is obviously undergoing a restauration.

But there was as well something very negative: The room with the famous painting is not locked any more and the artwork had to suffer much damage by "vandals" in the meantime. This is a real pitty!

I am looking now for any information / photo which has been taken when the painting was still intact - this could help an eventual restauration!

Please post here what you may find.

Thank you!

And here is the painting as it looks today:

Hello Kuno
Thank you very much for contacting me. I visited your web site and found it interesting.
I note your comment regarding seeing the original picture. Perhaps we could put links on pages to each others web site. As you know, my site has such original pictures.
I could put a link to you for people to see the closer pictures you have taken.

Also note that on my website is the truth that he was not a prisoner of war, but commissioned to paint.

What do you think?
